What types of search engines are there?
What types of search engines are there?
Common search types include:
- Frame viewfinder : shows the image area through a window (often found on compact or viewfinder cameras)
- Viewfinder : simple optical lenses without guide lines
- Sports viewfinder : on older cameras, two frames for quick orientation
- Clip-on viewfinder : external, e.g. for wide-angle or special lenses
Why are there external search engines?

Some cameras don't have a built-in viewfinder – for example, early plate cameras or 35mm bodies with interchangeable lenses. An external viewfinder helps to accurately frame the shot nonetheless.
